How much does a Murphy bed cost?

Southeast Murphy Beds · · 4 min read

The short answer

It depends on what you build. The size, the finish and any side cabinets set the price, and every bed is priced live on its own page as you choose.

  • Every bed is priced live on its page, for exactly what you choose. There’s no size chart to read it off.
  • A bigger bed costs more. A stained bed costs more than a painted one; an unfinished one costs less.
  • Side cabinets add to it, but pieces ordered together cost less than the same pieces bought one at a time.
  • Delivery or installation is priced at checkout for your address, as one line, before you pay.

Priced live, not from a chart

Every Murphy bed we sell is made to order, so there isn’t one price for “a Murphy bed”. Each bed has its own page, and the price on it updates as you choose the size, the color and any side cabinets either side. What you see is what that exact bed costs.

It’s worked out from the real job you’ve chosen, not read off a size chart, so there’s no rule of thumb to give. The quickest way to an answer is to open a bed and build it: see every bed, priced live.

If a price can’t be shown for a moment, the page says so rather than showing an old one. That’s on purpose.

The size

A Twin costs less than a Full, a Full less than a Queen, and a Queen less than a King. Each bed comes in all four sizes, built vertical or horizontal, and the page shows the price beside each size as you choose.

Pick the size for the room and the people who’ll sleep in it, not to save a little. How to measure for a Murphy bed helps you find what fits.

The finish

Every bed is built one of two ways. A painted bed is maple plywood, sprayed in the color you choose. A stained bed is white oak plywood, stained and cleared, with the grain showing. A stained bed costs more than a painted one, because white oak costs more than maple.

Where an unfinished option is listed, the bed comes sanded and ready for your own finish, and it costs less. The page shows the price for the color you pick. Not sure which color? Our color samples are mailed free, so you can see them in your own light first.

Side cabinets

Side cabinets stand either side of the bed, up to three on each side, in drawers, doors, a drawer over doors, or open shelves. Each adds its own price, and the width you choose (anywhere from 18″ to 33″) moves it too. Choosing side cabinets walks through the choices.

Here’s the part that helps: pieces ordered together cost less than the same pieces bought one at a time. We plan the whole order as one job, so less material goes to waste, and you keep the difference. The more you build, the more you save. A bed’s page and your cart show it as order-together savings.

Delivery or installation

How your order gets to you is priced at checkout, for your order and your address, and shown as one line before you pay. Delivery (curbside) goes anywhere in the lower 48 states and DC. Delivery + Installation is our own crew, near our Ringgold, GA workshop. Each bed’s page can show what reaches your ZIP before you add it to the cart.

Curbside delivery or installation explains what each includes. Sales tax is added at checkout where we have to collect it.

What the price buys

Every bed is real 3/4″ hardwood plywood, cut and built in our own shop, flat-packed with the fiddly assembly already done, and covered by our lifetime limited warranty. A custom order is built to the measurements you give us and can’t be returned, so check your numbers before you order, and call us with any question first.

Questions we get

Why don’t you list one price for a Murphy bed?

Because every bed is made to order. The price depends on the size, the finish and any side cabinets, so each bed’s page prices exactly what you choose, live, as you build it.

Does the color change the price?

It can. A stained bed costs more than a painted one, because white oak costs more than maple. An unfinished bed, where it’s offered, costs less. The page shows the price for the color you pick.

Do I save by ordering side cabinets with the bed?

Yes. Pieces ordered together cost less than the same pieces bought one at a time, because we plan the whole order as one job. The bed’s page and your cart show the saving.

How much is delivery?

Delivery and installation are priced at checkout for your order and your address, as one line you see before you pay. A bed’s page can show what reaches your ZIP.
